Finding Peace in God’s Perfect Timing
I will never forget the time I went to visit a friend who was stuck in a particularly dark time in his life. He had recently gone through a string of painful setbacks. He lost his job, lost his family, and was struggling with severe health issues due to addiction. This series of unfortunate events led him to isolate from everything and everyone; he had given up on life. When he opened his apartment door to me, in the middle of the afternoon, every light was turned off in the house. You could feel the darkness pressing in around him.
As we talked, he angrily shared about his disappointment with God, his disappointment with his life, and his disappointment with his friends. He said to me, “Nobody in the world cares about me!” The very second those words left his lips, his phone rang and he tried to hit mute, but accidentally answered the phone. I heard the voice of a man whom I recognized as a mutual friend of ours. The man said, “Hey brother, I was just thinking about you, and I wanted you to know that I love and care about you.” It was an absolutely awesome moment to see the body of Christ at work. The minute my friend said, nobody cares, someone called just to tell him, “I care!” It was pretty obvious God wanted to remind our friend of the truth that in our darkest times, He has not forgotten about us!
This reminds me of the incredible invitation from Jesus to all of us: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28 NIV) I love how God invites us to come to Him in our deepest and darkest times and promises that if we do …“you will find rest for your souls!” (Matthew 11:29b NIV) What a wonderful promise! When we feel neglected and forgotten, He is faithful!
I pray today that you find peace in God’s perfect timing.
Expectantly,
Shawn
