Un-shared Gospel
This Easter, I want to challenge you to consider who you might invite to join us for our services at Hope. We plan to communicate the gospel clearly. In our study of Revelation, there was a wonderful phrase used in chapter five: “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered!” (Revelation 5:5b ESV) This simple phrase summarizes the beauty and hope of the gospel. We do not have to weep any longer because the One who conquered the grave through His resurrection can conquer our grave as well. This is a beautiful, powerful truth, and we need to be willing to share it.
I love the story of the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8:26-40, who is searching for truth and Philip helps him understand what the scripture says about Jesus. ”And he [the eunuch] said, ‘How can I, unless someone guides me?’ And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.” (Acts 8:31 ESV) I love that this man invited Philip into his life, and Philip invited this man to find Jesus. This is what we get to do – invite our friends and family to find Jesus.
I placed a letter in my mailbox the other day with the intent that my faithful mail carrier would get it to its final destination. I think this is similar to our spiritual responsibility to share the gospel. The Lord has entrusted loved ones into our care, expecting that we will take this privilege of sharing the gospel with them seriously. According to Google, when you drop a letter in a mailbox, it is first delivered to the post office. The mail is then sorted by a complex system of postal workers who group the mail by zip code so that your letter can reach its proper destination. In the same way, we have the job of doing everything in our power to help others reach their divine destination – we get to carry this wonderful message of hope!
Would you join me in praying that God will reveal to you this Easter season whom you should invite to join us for our special time of worship and praise as we celebrate the victory of Jesus? (Click here for more information.) Who do you know that needs to hear a message of victory, a message of hope, and who needs to hear, “Weep no more because there is one who has conquered the grave!”? I pray that we all dare to invite others into this special relationship this Easter.
Expectantly,
Shawn
P.S. Please join me in praying for the family and friends of Sarah Michael, who graduated to heaven this week. She will be dearly missed by her Hope Church family. Calling hours will be at Hope on Tuesday, April 15, from 1:00-3:00 pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 3:00 pm.
